大鬧天宮五百年後，小僧玄奘提領佛旨，遠去西天求取真經。因緣際會，玄奘無意間解開了五行山下鎮壓孫悟空的佛印。孫悟空受制於觀音菩薩所賜的金箍，應下保護唐僧西去的使命。悟空雖然心中不服玄奘，但他一路上開山問路，收服八戒、沙僧，倒也盡忠職守。然而，頭頂的金箍與唐僧制約他的緊箍咒法卻始終困擾著他。白虎嶺白骨夫人千年成精，必須服用玄奘金身方可擺脫妖物輪回大限。白骨精洞悉孫悟空與唐僧之間的隔閡，故而三番兩次挑撥二人師徒關係。孫悟空在背負屈辱之下，還要以武鬥、以智取。難奈玄奘凡胎肉眼，看不清白骨真身。白骨詭計得逞，師徒二人就此決裂……
