《大鬧天宮》取材自《西遊記》前八回，故事從混沌之初，神魔決戰，女媧娘娘捨身化成萬千五彩晶石補天開始，片中重現『大鬧龍宮取神兵』、『天庭封官嬉放天馬』、『勇戰四大天王』、『三星洞拜師學藝』、『吹毛成兵』、『捆仙索神奇法力』、『煉丹爐煉成火眼金睛』等經典情節，新加入有九尾狐（新人夏梓桐飾）與孫悟空相戀的橋段，最後美猴王、玉皇大帝和牛魔王在天庭神魔大戰的場面更是華麗眩目。
幕後有來自《加勒比海盜》、《戰狼300》、《阿凡達》、《魔戒》和《金剛》等荷里活的精英加盟製作特效，打造驚人的特效鏡頭和魔幻場景。片中還有梁詠琪（嫦娥），鄭家星（哪吒）、劉樺（東海龍王）、張兆輝（李靖）、李菁（綠毛猴王），以及羅仲謙、汪圓圓、梁雨恩等演出。
