每天，警隊大約接獲185宗電話報警求助，當中180個與打架、強姦、謀殺、行劫、綁架有關；其餘5宗是那些 —「我家有點不尋常」之類的求助電話。
「雜務科」的責任就是負責調查這些不尋常的案件。
新紮師兄李國強在一次值班巡邏時，擊斃被通緝多年的連環殺手，及後更非自願性地被調派到另一部門 —「雜務科」，自此遂展開了一連串的靈異通緝之旅。
有別於警隊除暴安良、纖滅罪惡的英勇職務，「雜務科」處理不尋常案件的手法，往往是耐人尋味得令人無所適從。
「雜務科」另一要員，性情古怪兼視酒如命的部門主管－黃SIR，他與李SIR合力為「雜務科」解決每一個不尋常的求助，消除每一個求助市民的恐慌。在執行任務的同時，黃SIR煞有介事地向李SIR聲明「雜務科」的第一誡：這個世界沒有鬼！
