上世紀80年代末，肖然、劉元、陳啟明三位大學同學畢業後先後來到改革開放前沿深圳創業，出身農村的肖然和劉元共同喜歡上女同學韓靈。
劉元發現了肖然跟韓靈的戀愛關系後狠狠地奚落了肖然，二人產生矛盾。肖然發誓要讓韓靈過上富足的生活，他在商場上幾經沉浮，終於站住了腳，最後發展成擁有兩家上市公司的企業老板。可當他事業走上巔峰的時候，情感卻走向了困境。劉元一開始處處與肖然為敵，可他最後發現這並不能讓自己快樂起來，於是決定重新規劃自己的人生，學會了珍惜和善待身邊的每一個人。陳啟明因不堪忍受生活的重壓“嫁給”了藍園村村長的女兒，可這段沒有愛情的婚姻並沒有使他得到幸福。兒子的失而復得、妻子的善良大度讓他看到了人性的真善美，最終回歸家庭。
