劇情講述在中國明朝景泰八年，這時候宦官弄權，太監專權，西廠都督雨化田(陳坤飾)武藝高強，心狠手辣，憑得寵的萬貴妃(張馨予飾)而權傾朝野，宮女素慧容(范曉萱飾)傀懷有龍種而潛逃，被化名義士趙懷安的俠客凌雁秋(周迅飾)解救。凌雁秋帶著素慧容投店，趙懷安(李連杰飾)一路上跟蹤，直至到嘉峪關的龍門，遇上了以常小文(桂綸鎂飾)為首的韃靼商隊，以及西廠密探等江湖各路人馬……
