綽號「司機」的不知名車手(賴恩哥斯寧 飾)，日間在各大荷里活片場當飛車特技人，夜晚則化身亡命司機，以他極速的駕駛技術協助悍匪逃離犯罪現場。司機的超凡駕車技術無人能及，令他紅遍電影圈及黑道。
司機向來獨來獨往，但一次他在大廈電梯邂逅鄰居艾蓮(嘉莉慕萊根 飾)──這個獨力照顧兒子的柔弱女子令冷傲的他產生憐愛之情，然而在二人的感情有進一步發展前，艾蓮的丈夫史丹特(奧斯卡依撒 飾)提早從獄中獲釋，但在獄中欠下大筆保護費而被黑幫追殺，令艾蓮母子被捲入黑幫糾紛及無情廝殺之中。司機為保護艾蓮，答應協助史丹特打劫，以清還黑幫錢債。豈料史丹特在行劫時被殺，司機始料未及之際，又被一神秘車輛追截，企圖搶奪車上贓款。事件疑點重重，而當司機發現原來對他窮追不捨的黑道中人，目標並非巨額贓款，而是艾蓮兩母子時，他知道這次他不止要施展飆車本領，更免不了大開殺戒！
