花田國公主遺珠(楊穎飾演)自幼被送到中原去學習禮儀，十年後由中原麥炳榮(鄭中基飾演)大將軍護送回國。麥將軍和遺珠在中原相處期間早生情愫，遺珠更打算抵?後立即向皇兄提出婚事，招麥炳榮為駙馬。回國途中，二人救起為情自殺的女子黃鶯(熊黛林飾演)。好心的公主怕她著涼，把身上公主袍脫下來給她穿上。其後，眾人不幸遇上山賊，慘遭全軍覆沒，遺珠亦告墮海失蹤。花田國岸邊，黃鶯的父親黃百萬(黃百鳴飾)適逢喪妻又破產，把希望都寄托在女兒身上，準備帶她前往尚書府，履行指腹為婚的承諾。豈料黃鶯心裡早心有所屬，為情投海殉情。黃百萬盡僅餘的家財在海上撈回女兒，卻竟撈得喪失記憶且嚴重漏口的遺珠，黃百萬見遺珠……
