雜耍表演團裡的小丑，Sunny(郭富城飾)最大志願是像父親一樣在舞台上表演飛刀。偶然機會下，Sunny跟團裡五名團員包括張大初(鄒兆龍飾)深入馬來西亞山區盜寶，期間吸入二戰時日軍遺下之生化毒氣，令各人體內產生化學突變及出現獸化現象。張大初等人以超凡能力接連犯案，令警方束手無策，更請來武功精湛的內地專家孫皓(吳京飾)及程秀華(張靜初飾)協助追查。變異後的Sunny異常地敏捷，更擊退了大初等變種人。而剛被棄用的新聞女主播Angel(舒淇飾)卻吹捧Sunny成為「人民英雄」藉此挽回聲譽。孫皓更不惜以Sunny作誘餌引出變種人。經歷連場生死之戰，孫皓決意協助Sunny引發終極潛力，拯救全城！
